The Courts have recruited extra staff to deal with the expected rise in Probate applications as a direct result of the Covid 19 pandemic. The Probate Registry have warned that although they have taken steps to increase staffing levels, there could still be delays if Probate applications continue to rise.

It is thought that the number of applications will increase not only because of the increase in deaths, but also because some solicitors did not have access to their Will banks during the pandemic.

According to the Probate Registry, the processing time for Probate applications is 5/6 weeks on average. It is important to note that this timescale does not apply when the Probate Registry has cause to query an application. Those applications take considerably longer, which is why it is so important to ensure all applications are carefully prepared before being submitted. This is one of the reasons why instructing a solicitor to prepare documentation for you can help you to avoid lengthy delays caused by errors.

The Private Client team at Southerns are here to help guide you through the process of obtaining Probate. We recognise that the death of a relative or friend is a difficult time and we strive to ease the burden for those dealing with an estate by ensuring everything is sorted out as quickly as possible.
